Candidates for state offices will present their views at Candidates Night ’92 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. tonight at the Campus Center at Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Ave. in Woodland Hills.

Among those expected to attend are two 38th Assembly District candidates, Republican incumbent Paula Boland and Democrat Howard Cohen; 40th Assembly District Democratic incumbent Barbara Friedman and Republican candidate Horace Heidt, Libertarian John Vernon and Green Party member Glenn Bailey; 42nd Assembly District incumbent Democrat Burt Margolin and Republican candidate Robert Davis; and 19th state Senate District candidates--Republican Assemblywoman Cathie Wright, Democrat Hank Starr, Libertarian Richard N. Burns and Peace and Freedom Party member Charles Najbergier.

Representatives of various candidates seeking federal office will also be present, in addition to Los Angeles district attorney candidate Gilbert L. Garcetti, whose opponent, incumbent Ira Reiner, has pulled out of the race.

Sponsored by Pierce College Extension and the Women’s Organization Coalition, the event will also include pro-and-con presentations of ballot propositions by members of the League of Women Voters. Admission is free. More information can be obtained by calling (818) 719-6425.

San Fernando Valley Democrats will hold a massive voter registration drive called “Walk the Vote” beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Participants will cover a 16-mile stretch of Victory Boulevard from Buena Vista Street to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, a 10-mile stretch of Sepulveda Boulevard from Rinaldi Street to Victory Boulevard and the portion of Van Nuys Boulevard from the San Fernando Valley headquarters of the Democratic Campaign ’92 at 5426 Van Nuys Blvd. to Ventura Boulevard. Voter registration booths will be set up each mile along the routes.

The event will end with a rally and picnic at 12:30 p.m. at Woodley Park in the Sepulveda Basin. Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina is scheduled to be the keynote speaker and local candidates and politicians, including Rep. Howard L. Berman (D-Panorama City) are expected to attend. The rally is free; a $1 donation is asked of walkers and a $5 donation is requested for the picnic lunch. More information can be obtained by calling (818) 784-9913.
