MOORPARK : Construction of McDonald’s OKd
The Moorpark Planning Commission on Monday approved construction of the city’s first McDonald’s restaurant.
After dealing with concerns over access to the restaurant, the commission voted unanimously in favor of the project at Los Angeles Avenue and Spring Road.
“We’re very pleased to have a decision, and we’re delighted to be in Moorpark,” said Larry Messerschmidt, project manager for McDonald’s. “It’s been a long, tough fight.”
The commission initially discussed the proposed eatery at its Sept. 21 meeting, but deferred the matter to find out whether the state would allow a left-turn lane in front of the site to be used by eastbound traffic on Los Angeles Avenue.
Since the road is a state highway, any city-approved development would have to comply with California Department of Transportation guidelines.
After a meeting with Caltrans last week, city planners said they were confident that the left-turn lane into the restaurant would be allowed by the state.
The restaurant, which is expected to generate an estimated $100,000 annually in sales-tax revenue for the city and create about 50 full- and part-time jobs, will begin construction in November and could be open by February or March, Messerschmidt said.
McDonald’s originally applied to build the restaurant at the site in 1987 but was rejected.
