SAN DIEGO : Wife Pleads Guilty in Food Poisoning

Share

A woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon after she sprinkled roach killer on her husband’s food.

In a plea bargain agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop a felony charge of poisoning someone’s food against Kimberly Yvette Mayo, 29.

According to court documents, Mayo will be sentenced to time already served in the Las Colinas jail--about one week--during a hearing Oct. 28.

Mayo was arrested last month and reportedly told investigators that she sprinkled boric acid on her husband’s macaroni and cheese while he was watching a football game Sept. 20.

The attack, which caused minor discomfort, followed a loud argument outside the couple’s Highland Avenue home.

Boric acid, sold over the counter as roach bait, is fatal to humans if consumed in large enough quantities.
