Police on Thursday arrested a Costa Mesa man wanted in two counties on suspicion of child molestation.

Newport Beach detectives, during a search for a 15-year-old who reportedly ran away from his Newport Beach home, learned that the youth might be with Michael George St. Martin, 35, Sgt. Andy Gonis said.

While checking St. Martin’s name and researching where he lived, detectives discovered that he was wanted in Riverside and San Diego counties on child molestation warrants and on a federal warrant, Gonis said. Police would not elaborate on the federal warrant.

Detectives arrested St. Martin at his Wilson Street apartment, Gonis said. The teen-ager was found unharmed later at the Newport Pier, Gonis said.

St. Martin, Gonis said, was using the alias Michael Yale and told investigators that he was an unemployed laborer.

He was held in Newport Beach City Jail without bail.
