So far Eric Lindros is perfect.

The highly regarded rookie scored his second NHL goal in as many games Saturday night, getting the winner during Philadelphia’s home opener as the Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils, 6-4.

Brian Benning added two goals in the third period to help the Flyers to a 1-0-1 record.

Lindros stole the puck from Scott Niedermayer near center ice and fired a shot past goaltender Chris Terreri for the winning goal with 4:46 remaining.

“That one’s out of the way,” he said of his first goal at the Spectrum. “Now we can work on some other things.”

The Flyers, outshot 37-31, had tied the game on the second of Benning’s two 40-foot goals with 11:49 left.

Rod Brind’Amour added an empty-net goal with six seconds left to finish the scoring.

“They came from behind and found a way to win it,” New Jersey Coach Herb Brooks said. “I thought after two periods we had a chance to do something.”

New York Rangers 4, Washington 2--Tony Amonte had a goal and an assist and Mark Messier had three assists as the Rangers opened their season with a victory at Washington.

New York goalie Mike Richter stopped 21 shots and the Rangers killed seven of eight penalties. After Washington closed to 3-2 on a goal by Calle Johansson with 4:43 left, Adam Graves clinched the victory by finishing a three-on-one break with 2:28 to go.

Mike Gartner and Phil Bourque also scored for the Rangers, who opened defense of their Patrick Division title by beating the team that finished second. The Rangers lost five of seven games against the Washington Capitals last season.
