Great Spot for Bird-Watching--The Sea & Sage chapter of the National Audubon Society is sponsoring a field trip on Saturday to Huntington Central Park, one of the premier spots to bird watch in the county.

Attracted to the park’s coastal open space, a good variety of vegetation and water, more than 200 species have been spotted there.

Birds that have been seen in the fall at the park in the past include indigo buntings, Canada warblers, worm-eating warblers, chestnut-sided warblers and summer tanagers.

There will be a section of the trip devoted to beginning birders.

The trip will involve about one to two miles of walking within the park, and those participating should wear comfortable shoes that won’t be damaged by wet grass.

The trip begins at 8 a.m. and will end about noon.

For more information, call the chapter office at (714) 543-7393.

Prado Project--Volunteers are needed to help in a project to restore 120 acres of damaged riparian habitat in the Prado Basin, near Corona in Riverside County. The project will increase the habitat for the least Bell’s vireo, which is on the state and federal endangered species lists.

Workdays will be held Saturdays through Nov. 28 and Sundays Nov. 15 through 29 beginning at 9 a.m.

Volunteers should bring/wear a hat, gloves, high-top sneakers or hiking boots, sunscreen and bug repellent, as well as a canteen and lunch.

Those interested can bird watch in the area before the work begins. A nature hike in the nearby forest will be held after each workday for those wishing to participate.

For more information, call the restoration hot line at (800) 733-1763.
