Two men died and another was injured in a head-on collision Saturday in the Antelope Valley, authorities said.

Jose Alvarez, 50, a passenger in a pickup truck driven by Ramon Alvarez, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills, where he was listed Sunday in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Laudig was driving south on 170th Street East near Avenue S about 60 m.p.h. when he crossed over the center line into the northbound lanes at a curve in the road, Borunda said. Alvarez was traveling north about 60 m.p.h., Borunda said.

“Neither one had much of a chance to hit their brakes,” CHP Officer Dale DeArman said.
