Jazz / Blues Concert Raises Some Notes for Irvine Barclay

Share

A jazz and blues concert by Joe Williams netted about $25,000 for the Irvine Barclay Theatre. “It was definitely worth doing,” theater President Douglas C. Rankin said Monday.

The money raised last Saturday will be used to support programs sponsored by the theater, which opened in 1990 and is operated as a partnership between the city of Irvine, UC Irvine and the private sector (through support by businesses and individuals).

Coming concerts and programs at the 756-seat theater include Tammy Wynette on Oct. 17 and the San Jose Taiko music group on Oct. 25. Other events in the 1992-93 season include performances by the Maria Benitez Spanish Dance Co., the American Indian Dance Theatre and the Swiss mime-mask group Mummenschanz.

The theater is also home to a chamber-music series and events produced by UC Irvine.
