RESEDA : Student Shot Near School Campus

A 17-year-old Reseda High School student was critically wounded near the campus on Wednesday in the second gang-related shooting in two days in the west San Fernando Valley, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The youth was shot twice in the lower torso at 3:26 p.m. while waiting at a bus stop in front of a gas station in the 18100 block of Victory Boulevard, across from Reseda High School, Sgt. Paul Sciarrillo said.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition, Detective Joel Price said. A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the shooting and at least two other suspects were being sought by homicide detectives.

Four students have been wounded in violence near Los Angeles-area public high school campuses within the past month, including the fatal attack on Paramount High School cheerleader Sheila Lorta, 16, who was caught in gang cross-fire as she was returning to campus from a nearby restaurant.

Meanwhile, in another gang-related attack, a 20-year-old Canoga Park man was shot and wounded about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday as he stood outside a Burger King restaurant in the 21000 block of Sherman Way in Canoga Park, Detective Dave Steinbacher said. Martin Guzman was shot five times in the lower torso by a gunman who fled in a waiting vehicle.
