ROUNDUP : Lukas Colt Wins, Earns $1.1 Million

Mountain Cat scored a half-length victory over Living Vicariously in the $200,000 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland on Sunday, earning the 2-year-old colt a $1-million bonus.

Ridden by Pat Day and trained by Wayne Lukas, Mountain Cat ran the 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:45 2/5 and became the leading money-winning 2-year-old in U.S. history.

Mountain Cat won the bonus by sweeping the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund Series, which included the Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs, the Ellis Park Juvenile and the Alysheba Stakes at Turfway Park.

The winner’s purse of $122,220, combined with the bonus, increased Mountain Cat’s career earnings to $1,440,627. The colt is owned by William T. Young of Lexington.

Mountain Cat paid $2.80, $2.40 and $2.10. Living Vicariously returned $3.40 and $2.20 and Boundlessly paid $2.20. Mountain Cat will make his next start in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Gulfstream Park on Oct. 31.

Villandry, making her first start in more than a year, rallied wide through the stretch for a 2 1/2-length victory in the Grade II Long Island Handicap at Belmont Park.

Villandry earned $71,160 for David Wildenstein and returned $7.60, $3.80 and $3.00.
