A Riverside man was in critical condition after he was stabbed early Monday by a small group of men who demanded his Los Angeles Raiders jacket, police said.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old Cypress man several hours after the attack and were looking for five others who witnesses said participated in the 12:20 a.m. incident at La Palma and Knott avenues.

Edmond Eugene Barna, 19, and Deon Angelo Mclaine, 16, both of Riverside, got out of their car at a gas station at that corner to use the phone, said Sgt. Terry Branum. A group of six men approached Barna and Mclaine, demanding Barna’s Raiders jacket and Mclaine’s Raiders T-shirt, police said.

Barna and Mclaine refused and the group began beating them, police said.

At least one of the attackers pulled out a knife, stabbing Barna 10 times from the neck to buttocks, police said.

Barna was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, police said. Mclaine was treated at the scene for bruises, police said.

About four hours after the beating, officers arrested one suspect, Richard Javier Rivas, 18, in Cypress in a car that witnesses said left the scene of the beating. Rivas was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and held in Orange County Jail in Santa Ana in lieu of $250,000 bail, Branum said.

Police have not recovered the weapon believed used in the stabbing, Branum said.
