UPDATING LAGUNA: While researching a dance permit for a Laguna Beach gay bar, the police uncovered a city law which allows revoking permits if the establishment is frequented by “persons of ill repute, such as professional gamblers, prostitutes or homosexuals.” . . . . Says Deputy Police Chief Jim Spreine: “We thought, ‘Whoa,’ that is really outdated.” The City Council will be asked tonight to wipe it off the books. It was enacted in 1966, when most of today’s gay bars were then bars mostly frequented by Marines.
