ANTELOPE VALLEY : Ceremony Is Held for Highway Project

Share

Los Angeles County officials held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday for a $1.5-million project to widen a stretch of Pearblossom Highway in the Antelope Valley that has been plagued by numerous head-on traffic collisions in recent years.

The project, to be funded jointly by the county and Caltrans, includes adding a passing lane in each direction on a 1.5-mile segment of the two-lane highway near Pearblossom, and adding a 12-foot median for cars making left turns in the town.

The county awarded the contract for the work to Granite Construction Co. last month. The project is scheduled to start next month and continue through July. The two existing lanes of Pearblossom Highway will remain open, although access to side streets may be closed at times.
