A’s Coach Reportedly to Manage Marlins
Rene Lachemann, Oakland Athletic third base coach, has agreed to become the Florida Marlins’ first manager, according to the Miami Herald.
The Marlins declined to comment. Lachemann, 47, will sign a three-year deal for about $1 million, unidentified National League sources told the Herald. The deal probably will be announced today.
The Marlins interviewed eight candidates last month, then trimmed their list to Lachemann, Pittsburgh coach Bill Virdon and Atlanta third base coach Jimy Williams. Lachemann also was one of four finalists for the Texas Rangers’ job.
The Marlins’ pitching coach probably will be Lachemann’s brother, Marcel, who resigned last month after 10 seasons with the Angels.
