Beverly Hills : Benefit to Aid South-Central

Share

A city-sponsored concert to benefit needy residents of South-Central Los Angeles will be held Sunday at Beverly Hills High School.

The Faithful Central Baptist Church Choir, a 200-person group that has performed worldwide, will present a program of gospel music from 3 to 5 p.m. in the 1,600-seat auditorium.

Mayor Robert Tanenbaum said the event is intended not only as a way of raising $150,000 to benefit the riot-torn area, but also as a “meaningful cultural and personal exchange between neighbors.”

The choir is conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Ulmer, pastor of the 3,000-member Faithful Central Baptist Church of South-Central Los Angeles. Ulmer is also a member the Rebuild L.A. Board of Directors.

Tickets to the event are being sold by the city’s five PTA groups, and at City Hall, La Cienega Park, Roxbury Park, the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and at the door.

Corporate donors have already contributed about $40,000 to the fund-raiser.

Tickets are $50 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and children through high school age. Contributions are tax deductible. Information: (310) 285-1013.
