Magic Johnson Scheduled to Play in Exhibition at Sports Arena

Magic Johnson is expected to play tonight at the Sports Arena as the Lakers face the Sacramento Kings in a 7:30 p.m. tipoff. If he plays, will be Johnson’s second appearance in a Laker exhibition game since coming out of retirement last month.

Johnson showed his old form Tuesday in his first game back at the Forum, as he scored 12 points and had 14 assists in 14 minutes in the Lakers’ 138-111 rout of the Philadelphia 76ers. The Lakers are 2-0 with Johnson in the lineup, 0-2 without him.

WATER POLO

UC San Diego defeated Chaminade of Hawaii, 21-7, in a nonconference match at UCSD’s Canyonview Pool. The Tritons’ Mike Nalu, a Valhalla High alumnus, had five goals, and teammate Marcello Giulianotti added four. UCSD is 16-3, Chaminade is 8-7.

MEN’S SOCCER

Socrates Scatalini had one goal and two assists to give Point Loma Nazarene its first victory in eight matches, 3-0, over Cal Baptist in Golden State Athletic Conference play in Riverside.

Steve Beck had a goal and an assist and Ian Armstrong completed the scoring for PLNC (4-7-1, 1-4-1). Jason Bruem recorded his second shutout. Cal Baptist is 7-7-1, 1-5.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Monica Clancy of Point Loma Nazarene was defeated twice at the National Small College Championships at Corpus Christi, Tex. Clancy lost to Anna Larsheim of Mobile (Ala.) College, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round and to Sarianna Ansio of BYU-Hawaii, 6-3, 6-1, in the consolation bracket. Clancy, who is representing California small colleges, plays one more match today.
