Anna Hill Johnstone, 79, a costume designer who was nominated for Academy Awards for “The Godfather” and “Ragtime.” Her other movies included “On the Waterfront,” “East of Eden,” “Baby Doll,” “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Serpico,” “A Face in the Crowd” and “The Wiz.” Her first costume design credit was for the Broadway stage, the 1937 hit “Having a Wonderful Time.” Her costumes also were seen on Broadway in “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “Bell, Book and Candle,” “Lost in the Stars” and “Tea and Sympathy.” Oct. 16 in Lenox, Mass., after an undisclosed illness.
