Campus Insecurity

On Sept. 23, my daughter’s car was broken into at Chatsworth High School. The damages total $1,197. I feel that the Los Angeles Unified School District and the city of Los Angeles are liable for the expense.

Where are the security guards? What kind of safety can you guarantee to the students and their property? It doesn’t seem like they have any reason to feel safe in their own neighborhood school.

Last April, my daughter was confronted by students in the same parking lot. I called the school to complain and was asked to have my daughter identify the boys in question. Her response was: “If I do that, I’ll be dead tomorrow.”

What type of a school life is this? My daughter was an excellent student in the junior high she attended, on the principal’s list, etc. Since going to Chatsworth High School she hates school. How very sad. I don’t know what you can do except let the San Fernando Valley be its own district.

The district is too big and obviously out of control. Busing isn’t doing anything but causing the students to resent each other, when its purpose was supposed to be just the opposite. Every student deserves a safe, happy and healthy atmosphere in which to be educated. The school board should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this district to become what it is today.
