Susan Golding has chosen to attack her opponent on a non-issue--an issue made moot by the governor’s veto of a clean needle exchange pilot program. After voting against such a program in San Diego County this summer, Ms. Golding was very vocal about her “agonizing” over the issue and her leadership in “AIDS issues.” Now, in October, she accuses her opponent of wanting to give “free needles to addicts.” I believe this is a gross distortion of her opponent’s desire to stop the transmission of HIV to intravenous drug users, their sexual partners, and the children who are born from such unions and clearly misstates the practice and goals of a clean needle exchange program. I can no longer detect a shred of truth in candidate Golding’s supposed concern for people with AIDS/HIV as she climbs over their dead and dying bodies for political advantage. Susan Golding is ready to sacrifice anyone in her continuing quest for full-time political employment.
