Deane Dana Record on Women’s Issues
In 1980 when Deane Dana became supervisor of the Fourth District, he called a meeting of the three appointees to the Los Angeles County Commission for Women to find out what the commission was doing to address the concerns of women. At that same meeting he had invited Dr. Toni Carabillo of NOW and Joyce Morrissey from California Business and Professional Women and asked them if the Commission for Women was meeting the expectations of the “women’s community.” Deane Dana is the only supervisor to do this.
Supervisor Dana was instrumental in forming a Los Angeles County Day Care Committee and supported the recommendations of this committee on a Los Angeles County child-care policy and the hiring of a child-care coordinator. Los Angeles County is now the leader in the public and private sector with eight high-quality child-care centers.
Since the Commission for Women has been very active, we have asked the Board of Supervisors to take action on hundreds of issues and legislation on women’s issues, and Supervisor Dana has supported the women’s commission recommendations one hundred percent.
I am supporting Deane Dana because he has a proven record on women’s issues.
JUNE DUNBAR, Commissioner, L.A. County Commission for Women, Rancho Palos Verdes
