Hearst Well Enough for a Victory
If Garrison Hearst wasn’t enough for Kentucky to handle Saturday night, his Georgia teammates certainly were.
Hearst ran for 171 yards in 22 carries and scored a touchdown in leading the Bulldogs to a 40-7 Southeastern Conference victory.
Andre Hastings caught nine passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns, Terrell Davis had one rushing touchdown and caught a touchdown pass and quarterback Eric Zeier completed 16 of 21 passes for 228 yards.
In all, Georgia, 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC, riddled Kentucky’s defense for 567 yards.
Hearst was playing with an upset stomach that forced him to the sidelines in the first quarter.
“I felt fine when I came back in,” said Hearst, who has 1,232 yards on 152 rushes. “I think it was the spaghetti I ate before the game. I was winded and felt a little sick. I am never going to eat spaghetti from Kentucky again.”
Hearst raced around left end from 11 yards out with 7:55 to play for his 16th touchdown of the season and a 33-7 cushion.
Hastings scored on a 10-yard scoring pass from Zeier for a 17-0 lead in the second quarter and hauled in Zeier’s 24-yard pass in the right corner of the end zone for a 27-7 margin in the third.
Kentucky scored in the third quarter, when Pookie Jones hit Alonzo Browning with an 18-yard pass.
