VALLEY COLLEGE : Archery Class Reopens After Theft

Share

Despite the loss of most of its equipment to theft, Valley College’s archery class has reopened.

The class was closed temporarily earlier this month after the third break-in at the archery storage shed, said Karlyne Tan, archery instructor.

After the burglaries, Tan was left with few usable bows. But she said she was able to borrow some used bows from Pierce College and make small repairs on them, giving her enough equipment to teach the class.

Only four or five students have dropped the class, Tan said.

Both Tan and campus police said they have taken measures to prevent future thefts.

Tan labeled the bows with the Valley College symbol with a permanent marker in hopes of deterring would-be thieves.

Capt. Karl Traber, head of campus police, said the alarm installed after the third break-in has been adjusted so it will perform more effectively.

Patrols of the east side of the campus have been increased, he said.

With patrols throughout the night on varied routes, Traber said: “We’re ready. If it happens again, we’ll catch ‘em.”
