School Bond Measure

Share

Bravo to The Times for editorializing in favor of Proposition 155 (Oct. 17).

The State PTA, California Taxpayers Assn., Congress of California Seniors, California Chamber of Commerce, California Teachers Assn. and hundreds of thousands of concerned Californians urge voters to vote “yes” on 155.

Almost 2 million new students are expected to enter California schools by the end of the decade, and California already has the most severe overcrowding problem in the nation. In addition, one out of every two existing facilities is over 30 years old. Clearly, Proposition 155 could not come at a better time.

To maintain its competitive edge, California must have school environments that promote quality learning. With voter approval, Proposition 155 will help build these new classrooms and repair the older facilities, create 30,000 private sector jobs, and boost the state’s ailing economy--without raising taxes.
