Ross Perot volunteers said the independent presidential candidate plans to hold an eleventh-hour rally in the Southland on Sunday, either in Los Angeles or Long Beach.

Mike Altman, Orange County chairman of Perot ‘92, said the volunteers tried to find a site in Orange County that was both large and dry enough to accommodate the anticipated crowd of at least 16,000 campaign workers. But neither the Anaheim Convention Center nor the Orange County Performing Arts Center is as large as the the Long Beach Arena or the Los Angeles Convention Center, he said.

Altman recalled that, in June, Perot made an appearance at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre and said that certainly Anaheim Stadium would be large enough. “But right now we couldn’t do it outside because of the weather.”

He said he toyed with the idea of asking whether Perot could speak at Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove.

“But unfortunately on Sunday I think they have got it booked.”
