CAMARILLO : Hospital Asks State If Merger Is Legal

Share

Pleasant Valley Hospital has asked the state attorney general to determine if the hospital’s proposed merger with St. John’s Regional Medical Center violates state law, hospital officials confirmed Friday.

The request was filed earlier this week, preempting a similar request planned by directors of the Camarillo Health Care District, which seeks a promise from the hospital board that it will keep the hospital open for at least eight years after the merger.

The health care district, which operated the hospital until 1983, when it transferred it to a nonprofit organization, has questioned whether the community would lose hospital services if the merger goes forward.
