BELL GARDENS : School District to Give City a Wish List
Montebello Unified School District officials are preparing a wish list of funding requests for the Bell Gardens City Council, hoping the city will help pay for programs the financially strapped school system reduced or eliminated this year.
Details of the list have not been made public, but Bell Gardens High Principal Margarita Rosette said her school is asking for funds to reopen a student counseling center and to continue paying staff to supervise after-school activities, including band and stage crew, through the second semester.
Bell Gardens Assistant City Manager Larry Salazar said the City Council has reserved about $500,000 for community grants to assist schools and other public services.
Assistant Superintendent Norman Kirschenbaum said he didn’t know when the list would be forwarded to the city.
