Natrone Means rushed for 249 yards and two touchdowns in 31 carries to lead North Carolina to a 31-24 victory over Maryland in an Atlantic Coast Conference game Saturday at College Park, Md.

Randall Felton scored the tie-breaking touchdown on a 12-yard run with 4:03 left as the No. 22 Tar Heels improved to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the ACC.

Maryland (2-7, 1-5) managed only three offensive plays after Felton’s touchdown.

Wake Forest 18, Clemson 15--Todd Dixon made a diving catch of a 31-yard pass from Keith West in the corner of the end zone with 3:40 left at Winston-Salem, N.C., as the Demon Deacons ended a 15-game losing streak against the defending ACC champions.

It appeared the Tigers (4-4, 2-4) would pull out the victory after third-string tailback Greg Hood scored on a 15-yard run with 5:29 remaining, but the Demon Deacons (5-3, 2-3) rallied to give retiring Coach Bill Dooley a victory in his last home game.

Wake Forest ran its winning string to four, the longest since opening the season with five victories in 1987--Dooley’s first season with the team.

Georgia Tech 20, Duke 17--Michael Smith returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown and Rodney Wilkerson’s late interception stopped a drive as the Yellow Jackets beat the Blue Devils at Atlanta.

The ACC victory ended a two-game losing streak for Georgia Tech (5-3, 4-3). It was the 10th conference loss in a row for Duke (2-6, 0-5).

Memphis State 62, Tulane 20--Steve Matthews completed 13 of 16 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns--all in the first half--as the Tigers rolled to an impressive victory at New Orleans.

Memphis State (5-3) also had two touchdowns on interceptions called back by penalties.

Tulane dropped to 2-6.

Louisville 27, Cincinnati 17--The Cardinals (4-5) broke an eight-game road losing streak despite giving up 17 points to the Bearcats (1-7) in the third quarter at Cincinnati.
