PALMDALE : County, Contractor Settle Disagreement

Share

Los Angeles County will pay a Watsonville contractor $57,000 to settle a disagreement over cost overruns on a runway resurfacing project at the Gen. William Fox Airport in Palmdale.

The county Claims Board on Monday approved the settlement with Granite Construction Co. as a compromise on a $125,558 claim filed against the county. The construction company maintained that it had been required to do additional testing, had had to use a different and more expensive seal mix and had sealed more than originally required.

The original cost of the job was about $78,000.

Although the county did not agree with all of the claim, it decided to settle to avoid further litigation, said Jean Granucci, spokeswoman for the county Public Works Department.
