PRO FOOTBALL: DAILY REPORT : RAIDERS : Dickerson Might Get More Work

Share

Look for running back Eric Dickerson to get more playing time Sunday.

Coach Art Shell said he will “probably” get away from his three-back rotation and give the ball more to one back when the Raiders play the Eagles in Philadelphia Sunday.

Although Shell wouldn’t specify which of the backs would be the primary ballcarrier, it probably will be Dickerson, who starts every game and leads the club with 347 yards rushing.

Shell has kept Dickerson on the sidelines during the second half much of the time this season, going instead with Marcus Allen and Nick Bell.

In the Raiders’ last game, a 28-13 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Dickerson had 34 yards in four carries during the first quarter, but got only four more carries the rest of the game, good for eight yards.

The Raiders expect veteran guard Max Montoya to be back in the lineup this week.

Montoya suffered a torn ligament in his right knee seven weeks ago, but has been able to recuperate through rehabilitation rather than surgery.

“I’m ready to go,” said Montoya, 36. “I still feel it a little bit, but I think that’s one of those injuries that stay with you. It doesn’t heal itself in six weeks.”
