SIMI VALLEY : Reagan Library Plans Celebration

Share

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is 1 year old today, and library officials have scheduled a five-day birthday celebration marked by special events and free admission for all Ventura County residents.

Festivities begin at 10 a.m. today, when visitors will be greeted by county Supervisors Vicky Howard and Maria VanderKolk and county Chief Administrative Officer Richard Wittenberg as a new flag is raised outside the library near Simi Valley.

Cake and coffee will be served to visitors throughout the day and a newly edited version of the 23-minute film “The Reagan Years” will debut. Another film, “Building for a Legend,” which documents the construction and dedication of the library, also will be shown.

“They’re really little incentives and thank-yous to the community,” library spokeswoman Stefanie Salata said of the events. “When we were brand new a year ago, everyone was applauding us and these are really little treats for the people who have helped make us successful.”

Library admission will be free to county residents through Sunday, when an open house will be held from noon through 5 p.m. During the open house the library will offer tours of the underground archival area and the research room.

“They’re areas that (visitors) normally don’t get to see,” Salata said.
