Aztecs Fall to Top-Ranked UCLA

UCLA’s top-ranked women’s volleyball team came into San Diego State’s Peterson Gym Tuesday night without a loss and having dropped only three games in 20 matches.

The Bruins (21-0) extended their undefeated streak with a 15-9, 15-8, 16-14 victory over the Aztecs, who squandered a 12-3 lead in the third game.

Gracie Schutt’s 12 kills and Stephanie Riley’s 11 paced SDSU (18-8). For UCLA, Elaine Youngs had 14 kills.

Point Loma Nazarene won its final game of the regular season on the road with an 15-11, 15-5, 10-15, 15-5 District 3 victory against Biola. The Crusaders (18-6, 12-3) return home for a pair of district games this weekend. Biola fell to 16-12, 11-5.

FOOTBALL

Escondido High’s Vu Dang, who was injured in an Oct. 2 game, has been released from Scripps Memorial Hospital’s Rehabilitation Center in Encinitas. Dang’s rehabilitation physician and team reported good progress in his program.

Dang, who suffered a head injury when he was tackled on a punt return, will continue his rehabilitation at Learning Services of Escondido on an outpatient basis.

MEN’S SOCCER

San Diego State dropped a 2-0 decision to Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills at Carson in its final game of the season. The Aztecs (10-8-1) had two scoring opportunities midway through the second half, but couldn’t convert. CSDH improved to 8-9-3.

After dropping out of the coaches’ poll national rankings for a week, USD (13-4) reappeared in the 20th spot this week. No. 1 Portland (12-3) plays the Toreros, who were ranked as high as 14th, Friday at USD.
