News from the L.A. Times: George Ramos, veteran reporter, recently began a column that appears each Monday in the Times’ Metro section. Ramos, an East L.A. native, was co-editor of The Times’ Latino series that won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Meantime, Louis Sahagun, who has been covering City Hall, has been appointed bureau chief in Denver. And another longtime Times staffer, Jose Galvez, has left The Times to return to his hometown of Tucson, where he will work as an independent photographer. Galvez, whose work has been exhibited widely in the L.A. area, said he will “continue to document the Latino people of the Southwest and Mexico, and to make my collection available to Latino organizations.”
