Butts Criticizes Chiefs’ Tackling Tactics

Share

Running back Marion Butts, forced from the game because of a knee injury, suggested the Chiefs’ tackling tactics are designed to injure players.

Butts, who also injured his knee in the Chargers’ season opener with the Chiefs, said he had words with former San Diego safety Martin Bayless after having his leg pulled in a pileup.

“I told Bayless, ‘What are you trying to do, break my ankle?’ ” Butts said. “That’s the tackling style they have. They hit you and then roll.

“You should be angry anytime you play somebody and get hurt. They took my whole shoe off. They do this quick roll and so they’re going to hurt something in the process. I wouldn’t say it’s intentional, but that’s the style of ball they play . . . I got hurt against this team before.”

Butts injured his knee in the opener, and then hurt it again against Seattle. He returned to form last week against the Colts.

Coach Bobby Ross said Butts may have pulled loose scar tissue and suggested the injury will not be serious.

“I’m quick healer,” Butts said.
