Countywide : United Way Gets Emergency Funds

Share

United Way of Ventura County has received a grant of $422,417 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist emergency food and shelter programs in the county, the agency announced Monday.

The funds will be distributed among existing nonprofit organizations that have proven an ability to deliver emergency food and shelter, said United Way spokeswoman Sylvia Schnopp.

“The size of the grant is tied to the needs of our community, the unemployment rate and the homeless census,” Schnopp said.

A local United Way board with representatives of local governments and nonprofit service agencies will review applications for the funding and decide where the dollars will go. In the past, about 20 local agencies have benefited from similar grants awarded to United Way of Ventura County, Schnopp said.

Agencies who wish to apply should contact Beverly Viola of United Way at 485-6288 before the Dec. 3 deadline.
