A 14-year-old Newhall girl whose parents at first believed she had been kidnaped but whom authorities now believe is a runaway returned home briefly Monday to retrieve some belongings before quickly disappearing again, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Nuria Lisbeth Valladares’ father told deputies that he heard noises in the family’s garage shortly after noon and that he saw his daughter gathering a few items before she ran and entered a waiting car, which sped away. Deputies said they have no description of the vehicle.

The girl’s parents reported her missing after school Friday, fearing that she might have been kidnaped by a 22-year-old man they said had abducted her in 1991 in El Salvador when the family lived there, deputies said.

However, Sheriff’s Department investigators decided that she had not been kidnaped by the man after a friend of the girl reported seeing her about 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Santa Clarita Valley, a department spokeswoman said.
