Share

A 14-year-old Buena High School student was injured when he dived off a high board at the school’s pool and hit his head on the 11-foot-deep concrete bottom, school officials said.

Jorge Martin was injured in the accident about 2 p.m. Monday and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center. After an overnight stay at the hospital, he was released Tuesday afternoon, a nursing supervisor said. The boy was pulled from the pool by two other students in the freshman swim class, Assistant Principal Gordon Whitcomb said.

The class instructor, Ray Seay, revived Jorge with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before emergency workers arrived.

Whitcomb said the boy dived off a board about 10 feet high and may have gone straight down.
