COSTA MESA : Grants to Expand Day-Care Services

Share

The Assistance League of Newport-Mesa, a nonprofit organization that provides housing, food and clothes for needy children, was recently given $275,000 in grants for its two day-care centers.

The money, $250,000 of which came from the George Hoag Foundation and $25,000 from State Farm Insurance, will help provide more services at the league’s day-care center at 2032 Orange Ave. The money will also help pay for the expansion of its newly renovated day-care center at 2220 Fairview Road.

More than 10,000 children went through the day-care centers last year. League officials expect more children to receive help this year in the form of health and dental care and food and clothing.

In addition to providing housing, the league’s centers care for children whose parents work but cannot afford sufficient day care, said Judy Goffin, a spokeswoman for the organization.
