Beschen Clinches Surfing’s Tour Title
San Clemente’s Shane Beschen clinched the U.S. tour championship Sunday by winning the Bud Pro Surfing Championships at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
Beschen becomes the second consecutive San Clemente resident to win the overall title, following Mike Parsons. Beschen edged Santa Barbara’s Chris Brown, Capistrano Beach’s Terence McNulty and San Clemente’s Jim Hogan in Sunday’s final.
Beschen finished first in the overall standings with 8,555 points and $23,125 in prize money. Cardiff’s Rob Machado was second with 6,770 points and $15,800.
Machado, Beschen, Brown and Newport Beach’s Richie Collins qualified for next year’s Assn. of Surfing Professionals world tour.
