Monrovia : New Fire Station Next Year?
A 15-year plan to open a second fire station in the south end of the city may finally be realized next year, City Manager Rod Gould said.
The City Council voted Tuesday to set aside $200,000 in surplus federal money for the project. An additional $1 million from the sale of city property has already been earmarked for the station. Gould said that over the past two months, the city has been talking with the Monrovia Unified School District about the possibility of trading some city land for a 25,000-square-foot plot currently used by Santa Fe Middle School for warehouse space.
The site, at Duarte Road and Myrtle Avenue, is considered ideal for a station to serve the southern part of Monrovia, which is two to three miles from the existing fire station on East Lemon Avenue.
