ORANGE — A man who allegedly robbed a Builders Emporium at gunpoint Wednesday evening was arrested about an hour later after police surrounded a home in Santa Ana where he had fled.
The man entered the store on East Chapman Avenue at 8:54 p.m. just as it was about to close. He was reportedly armed with a semiautomatic shotgun and forced the manager into an office, said Orange Lt. Ed Falkenstein.
“He forced the manager to open a safe inside of the office and took approximately $3,000 in cash,” Falkenstein said. “He then handcuffed the manager and left the store. The manager managed to slip out of the handcuffs and called police.”
Police found the man, whose name was not available, at a home in the 3200 block of South Olive Street in Santa Ana. They surrounded the house and arrested him at 9:45 p.m. The money and a gun were recovered, Falkenstein said.
