LAGUNA BEACH : City to Pay Claims of Two Hurt by Bus
The City Council has agreed to pay $115,000 to settle claims filed by two women who were injured more than two years ago when a city bus crashed into the rear of their vehicle on Laguna Canyon Road.
The settlement was recommended by City Manager Kenneth C. Frank, who said in a memo to the council that “the city is clearly at fault” in this accident.
The accident occurred in July, 1990, when a city bus failed to stop in time and drove into the back of a vehicle stopped near Canyon Acres Drive.
Mina Kvasnicka, the driver of the car, suffered serious injuries that could eventually require neck surgery, Frank’s memo said. She was awarded $100,000 in the settlement.
Passenger Michelle Vigil suffered lesser injuries, the memo said. She received $15,000.
