COSTA MESA : Teen-Agers Admit School Burglaries

Three teen-agers who were caught by police after breaking into Killybrook School over the weekend have confessed to a spate of recent burglaries at four other Costa Mesa schools, authorities said Monday.

The three suspects--ages 17, 15 and 14--were found in a room at Killybrook School about 8:15 p.m. Sunday by officers investigating a report of breaking glass at the campus, Officer Wayne Riedmann said. Their names were withheld because of their ages.

While being questioned, the boys “implicated themselves” in recent burglaries at Davis School, Paularino School, Presidio School and Costa Mesa High School, as well as three automobile burglaries in the vicinity of the schools, Riedmann said.

“Apparently, they were taking money,” Riedmann said. He could not say how much cash had been stolen.

An administrator at the Newport-Mesa Unified School District said he had not been notified of the Killybrook burglary. However, he said some computer equipment had been stolen from Costa Mesa High School during a break-in on Nov. 14.

All three boys were released to the custody of their parents pending questioning and the filing of burglary charges by Juvenile Hall authorities, Riedmann said.
