East Mesa Jail Is Calm After Lockdown
The County Jail at East Mesa returned to normal Monday morning after authorities lifted a lock-down that was prompted by two violent disturbances involving dozens of inmates.
Twice on Sunday brawls broke out among about a dozen inmates at the jail in the Otay Mesa area of San Diego. The second time, almost 200 inmates shouted and encouraged the violence, officials said.
Three inmates were taken to hospitals for injuries, but all had returned Monday, sheriff’s Sgt. Glenn Revell said. No law officers were injured and there was no property damage, he said.
The incidents are being investigated and additional criminal charges may be sought against some inmates, Revell said.
