A 16-year-old boy was killed in front of his North Hollywood apartment in a gang-related drive-by shooting, Los Angeles police said Monday.

David Villasenor, described as an associate gang member, was pronounced dead at the Medical Center of North Hollywood at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Detective Mike Coffey said.

Two of David’s friends, both 18 and members of a Latino gang, were walking toward his apartment in the 5700 block of Whitsett Avenue about 7:25 p.m. when they sighted two cars carrying six to eight rival gang members, Coffey said.

They “felt something was going to happen so they ran up to” David’s apartment “and asked him to come down and help them because they were outnumbered,” Coffey said.

When David stepped onto the driveway, gunfire erupted and he was shot in the upper torso, Coffey said. The rival gang members drove away.

No one else was injured and no arrests have been made, Coffey said.
