Alhambra : Blanco Becomes Mayor

Share

Vice Mayor Michael A. Blanco succeeded Talmage V. Burke as mayor during an oath of office ceremony Monday night.

Councilwoman Barbara A. Messina was sworn in as the new vice mayor.

Burke and Boyd G. Condie, who were reelected to the City Council, also took oaths.

In his first mayoral address, Blanco lightened the proceedings by borrowing quips from television talk show hosts Jay Leno, Arsenio Hall and David Letterman. In a serious moment, he announced a program of community pride and neighborliness as his goal for his nine-month term as mayor.

Blanco, who has been on the council since 1982, served as mayor under the rotation system in 1985 and 1989.
