Watercolorist Wins Top Prize
The city’s Arts Commission has awarded resident Gloria Parry Walter $800 for her watercolor “Curtain Call,” a colorful and whimsical painting now on display at City Hall.
Walter took top honors in the residents-only annual contest meant to promote Newport Beach artists and get people to visit City Hall, city officials said.
Shirley Sullivan was awarded second place honors, receiving $400. Third place, a $200 award, went to Ellen K. Gladis. Three other artists received honorable mentions and $50 each.
Arts commissioners said 300 people entered the contest.
All winning entries and eight that won the Judges’ Special Awards will be on display through Jan. 1.
