LOS ANGELES : Companies Urged to Give Medical Supplies to Somalia

Share

A relief agency on Friday started packing $250,000 in medical supplies for Somalia and planned to ship the emergency materials within 10 days.

“This is the worst situation we’ve ever seen,” said Neil Frame, a spokesman for Operation USA. “Worse than Ethiopia and the Sudan in ’85.”

The supplies will be shipped to Kenya and then delivered to Somalia. Perishable products, such as antibiotics, will be sent by airplane, Frame said. Operation USA asked for donations from medical supply companies as workers began packing a 40-foot-long sea container. “We would like to hear from large distributors,” Frame said. “We don’t need people to run to their medicine chests, because the problem is too big for that.”
