SIMI VALLEY : Early Morning Fire Damages Scribner’s Electronics Plant
An early morning electrical fire Sunday damaged a Simi Valley plant that produces circuit boards, authorities said.
A short circuit sparked the fire in a processing room at 6:04 a.m., and it was extinguished less than an hour later, a spokeswoman for the Ventura County Fire Department said.
About 28 firefighters responded to the blaze, she said.
No injuries were reported.
A hazardous materials team also was dispatched to the scene to clean up some chemicals, including gold-plating solution, the spokeswoman said.
Harry Scribner, co-owner of the firm, Scribner’s Electronics Inc. at 4568 Industrial St., estimated damage at between $60,000 and $100,000.
Scribner said five gallons of the gold-plating solution was lost during the fire.
“That’s pretty expensive,” he said.
About 40 employees work in the 10,000-square-foot plant which, since 1971, has produced circuit boards for commercial use and for drag-racing cars, Scribner said.
The company was scheduled to receive an award from the city of Simi Valley for maintaining “one of the cleanest shops around,” he said.
