Popi Edwards of UC Irvine and Lisa Parbst of Cal State Fullerton were the only players from local colleges to be named to All-Big West Conference women’s volleyball teams. But several players with local ties were honored.
Edwards, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, and Parbst, a 5-7 outside hitter, were second-team selections and were named to the all-freshman team.
Hawaii’s Sarah Chase, from Pacifica High, shared freshman of the year honors and was a first-team selection. UC Santa Barbara’s Kristie Ryan, a senior from Huntington Beach High, was a first-team selection.
Nevada’s Kelly Martin, a sophomore from El Toro, and Cristin Rossman, a sophomore from Marina, were second-team selections.
