Ruelas to Fight Nelson on Feb. 20
Gabriel Ruelas of Arleta, the World Boxing Council’s top-ranked super-featherweight contender, will fight champion Azumah Nelson on Feb. 20 in Mexico City, according to Dan Goossen, Ruelas’ manager.
The title fight will be part of a card that will include Julio Cesar Chavez, the WBC’s super-lightweight champion, defending his crown against Greg Haugen.
A news conference is scheduled for today to announce the bouts, which will be held in 102,000-seat Azteca Stadium.
Ruelas, 21, is 33-1 with 16 knockouts, his only defeat coming two years ago when he sustained a broken arm in a bout against Jeff Franklin. Nelson is 35-2-1 with 25 knockouts. It will be the ninth defense of his championship.
